Catalogue Information
Field name Details
Creator John Gellibrand
Title 106 Wallace Street Braidwood Royal Cafe [Photograph]
Description 1 original black and white photograph 253mm x 202mm
Notes An original black and white photograph of the southern end of Wallace Street, highlighting the Royal Cafe at No. 106 Wallace Street. The cafe was one of the 'sets' in the 1987 film, 'The Year My Voice Broke'. On the 21st anniversay of the film's open-air screening in Wallace Street, nostalgic audience members were dismayed to find they had failed to notice the changes that had slowly morphed the old interior of booths into a modern, fast food cafe. The cafe's closure eventually prompted the owner to refurbish the premises to accommodate today's St Vinnie's op-shop. The creator of this image, John Gellibrand, was an amateur photographer and member of the Braidwood & District Historical Society.
